Building Pages and Finding Content Is Easier.

  • Pages and folders are now a single entity (called pages), on which you place both portlets and items. Each region can host either items or portlets: you decide which.
  • Page templates make it easy to enforce strict page design policies or to include portlets for common content, navigation, and so on.
  • Prefer to code your pages using a JSP editor? Use the new Copy as a JSP feature to generate a page definition you can edit using whatever tool you choose.
  • Complete all your page building tasks from a single interface. No more flip-flopping between managing the content and controlling the way it appears. Everything's done in one location!
  • Searching external repositories is a snap. Oracle9iAS Ultra Search lets you index and search Web sites, Oracle databases, IMAP mail servers, Oracle9iAS Portal, files and user-defined data sources.

Managing Content Is Easier, Too!

  • Update your portal content through your Windows Explorer. No more uploading and downloading items! Just save a document through your WebDav-enabled application and the content is automatically reflected in the portal.
  • Page groups help you manage logical collections of pages, offering the same level of control previously provided by content areas.
  • Simple text item types let you cut and paste HTML--along with .gifs or .jpegs--into an integrated HTML editor. Display your inline text with greater flexiblity than provided by an HTML portlet.
  • Create your own review/approval chain, requiring an item to move to one or more individuals for review/approval. Keep track of the items awaiting your approval with the Notification portlet; find out where your items are in the queue with the Status portlet.
  • When creating custom item types, you decide which attributes appear in the Add Item and Edit Item Wizards.
  • Enhancements to the Java Portal Development Kit (PDK-Java) provide a portal-independent user interface for creating and managing external portlet providers. This gives developers a declarative way to create secure, custom portlets on existing J2EE applications.
  • Want more? Take advantage of the wide variety of information and news sources offered by the content partners in the Oracle Portal Partner Initiative, such as Factiva, Hoover's, Northern Light, Screaming Media and YellowBrix.

Expand Your Control with Other Oracle9iAS Components.

  • Fewer calls to the portal database means improved performance. Oracle 9iAS Portal is fully integrated with Oracle 9iAS Web Cache, so page requests can be served entirely from the cache.
  • Superior protection for multiple portals. Using Oracle9i Virtual Private Database (VPD) features, securely isolate data in multiple portals at the row level--across all applications, within a single portal instance.
  • Use Oracle's LDAP directory's Delegated Administration Servers (DAS) client as the interface to centrally manage your username and group definitions across multiple applications.
  • Integration with Oracle9iAS Wireless. Reach your employees in the field with portlets and pages that display on wireless devices.
