Welcome to History of the European Union. After the referendum on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, there is a growing state of opinion that Euroscepticism is growing all over Europe. The ideals of Peace, Liberty and Brotherhood that gave rise to the most successful multinational organization in the world, would be undermined by the fear of immigration, the weight of the Euro-bureaucracy and the emergence of populist movements to the left and right of the political spectrum.
As will be seen throughout this course, advances and setbacks, hopes and doubts, they have been the fiber which has been woven the European Union. Knowledge of this history will provide a more calm idea of the integration process, a better understanding of its rhythms and, above all, a more optimistic view about the prospects of the Union.
