The first module of the program has a double objective. On the one hand, it is an advanced methodological introduction within the master's program and, on the other hand, it provides students with the research methodological tools used in the field of police cooperation, which they can apply to their master's thesis later, in the Module 7.
The content of this module focuses on different elements of the research process and includes the academic planning, the development of a research plan, the writing of a research paper and its public defense, all with ethical considerations related to the process of research itself, as to the subject matter of the contents.
The program of this module is coherent with the contents of the other modules that follow in the master, since the concrete examples of the research methods that are going to be treated in this module will deal with the subject of policing and police cooperation , that will be treated in the rest of modules.
The main contents of this module are the following: 1. Academic planning: 1.1. Description of scientific learning placing it in the field of police sciences 1.2. Research designs in the field of Social sciences 2. Methodological concepts of research in the Social sciences 2.1. Qualitative research methods: Theoretical and practical research hypotheses, scientific paradigms, induction and inference 2.2. Quantitative research methods: Data collection and analysis. Meaning of statistical data using examples on crime and justice. Channels of access to the official statistical data and their conditions of obtaining. Protection of data and its impact on access to data. Use of the SPSS computer program. 3. Preparation of a research paper 3.1.
