Qualification and evaluation criteria

The students will have to sit an exam where they demonstrate their knowledge of critical schools and critical analysis, besides deep knowledge of the literary readings. Further instructions will be provided in the virtual course.

Esta prueba presencial se evalúa inicialmente sobre 10 para posteriormente aplicar el porcentaje del 70% (es decir, la nota obtenida se multiplica por 0.7).

Es necesario superar la prueba presencial con una nota mínima de 5 puntos sobre 10 para poder sumar el resto de las calificaciones del sistema de evaluación.

Description

The students will have a text analysis to be developed as an essay. The text will belong to one of the works studied in the course. 

The second question will be related to the theoretical part of the course (critics, critical schools, theoretical concepts).

Qualification and evaluation criteria

 

Relevance. The answer should provide information related to the precise question and topic to be developed.

Knowledge. Students should show enough knowledge about authors, critics, schools, theoretical questions, studied throughout the course.

Depth. Quality and depth of the critical and stylistic analysis. Deep understanding of the literary texts.

Critical thinking. Ability to relate literature to cultural, social, and historical issues, being able to contextualize and theorize about it.

Essay style and discourse. Proper use of english, academic register and ability to introduce, develop and conclude critical ideas.

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT TESTS (PEC)

Description

The format will be exactly the same and the final exam.

The PEC is not compulsory but it is worth 20% of the final mark. The PEC will be marked out of 10 points. The purpose of the PEC is for students to acquire knowledge in an organised fashion, following a gradual learning process. Completing them gives students the opportunity to assess their comprehension, assimilation, and ability to analyze and discuss the unit-related content and compulsory readings.

Detailed instructions will be posted by the instructors on the virtual course.

  • There is no second PEC for the September call. The mark of the February PEC will be kept until September.

Final Grade:

20% PEC

10% Participation

Students will also be expected to adhere to the assignment deadlines and observe the commonly accepted standards of academic honesty and intellectual integrity. THOSE RESORTING TO PLAGIARISM OR ACADEMIC FRAUD IN THE PEC WILL RECEIVE A ZERO GRADE.

It is necessary to pass the exam with a minimum mark of 5 points to add the PEC mark and participation in the online fora. The final mark is the result of the sum of these three marks. The sum of the three marks must be 5 points to pass the subject.

Those students who do not turn in the PEC, and do not participate in the discussion will obtain a maximum of  7 points out of 10 as the final grade.
