Description

An essay between 3000 and 4000 words should be turned in the “Entrega de trabajos” Section on the virtual platform before 26 May 2023. Specific instructions will be posted on by the instructors on the virtual course.

The instructions document will include several topics to develop for the students to choose one. An example of topic could be "Female experiences and experimental language in two of the authors studied". The topics will include the authors studied, the thematic approaches seen during the course and the theoretical framework studied in the different Units. The objective will be to see if the students can analyze critically the poetry studied in the course from a feminist literary critical perspective.

The instructions manual for the final paper will also have information on format, length, style and plagiarism.

General guidelines: 

  •  3000-4000 words (including footnotes and works cited). 
  • MLA formatting style: double space, Times New Roman 12, footnotes.
  • It is compulsory to include the authorship statement (declaración jurada) when submiting the final paper. The statement can be found in the Documents icon.
Qualification and evaluation criteria

The evaluation criteria for the final research paper are the following: 1) detailed knowledge of the topic; 2) precise and clear structure and exposition of the topic; 3) a proper implementation of the adequate theoretical framework to the topic; ) a justified, pertinent and clear exposition of conclusions; 5) accurate use of bibliography; 6) quality of the written discourse in English and good use of the academic register; 7) correct use of the academic models for reference, bibliography and quotes (MLA).

This essay is COMPULSORY.

There will be a specific forum open during most of the course to solve doubts about the final paper and other evaluation activities.

The date to hand in the Final Paper for September is 05/09/2023.

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT TESTS (PEC)

Description

The PEC is not compulsory but it is worth 20% of the final mark. The PEC will be marked out of 10 points. The purpose of the PEC is for students to acquire knowledge in an organised fashion, following a gradual learning process. Completing them gives students the opportunity to assess their comprehension, assimilation and ability to analyze and discuss the unit-related content and compulsory readings.

Detailed instructions will be posted by the instructors on the virtual course.

Qualification and evaluation criteria

The PEC will have the same format as the final paper and instructions will be given to students in a document regarding topic, style, format and objectives. The evaluation criteria are exactly the same as for the final paper being the objective to see if students can approach critically the analysis of one or more works within the theoretical perspectives seen in the course. Academic register, organization of ideas, good use of english and bibliographic reference will be taken into account.

Students will be able to access their marks and evaluation comments on their assignments in the same section of the aLF platform.

The content of the PEC will include authors and themes related to Unit 1, 2 and 3.

There is no second date for PEC for September. The PEC grade will be mantained to be taken into consideration for September.

Description

Active participation in the fora, sharing comments, interacting with other students' comments and asking particular questions about the content, theory or authors studied.

The course is designed so the virtual course presents certain "Activities" students have to follow. They should share, as indicated, their impressions and advance throughout these activities in the forum for each Unit. Some activities are about searching for the definition of terms, others about research on specific authors, etc.

Qualification and evaluation criteria

Economy of ideas, awareness and reaction to others' comments, proposal of debate topics, regular participation and constant work throughout the four units.

As the professor will check the forums regularly the participatiton of students will be progressively noticed during the course. The students' comments, questions, and debates will be adequately answered and taken care of by the course instructor.

How to obtain the final grade?

Final Grade:

70% Final Paper

20% PEC

10% Participation

Students will also be expected to adhere to the assignment deadlines and observe the commonly accepted standards of academic honesty and intellectual integrity. THOSE RESORTING TO PLAGIARISM OR ACADEMIC FRAUD IN THE PEC OR THE PAPER WILL RECEIVE A ZERO GRADE.

It is necessary to pass the paper with a minimum mark of 5 points so that the PEC mark and the participation in the online forums mark are added. The final mark is the result of the sum of these three marks. The sum of the three marks must be 5 points in order to pass the subject.

Those students who do not turn in the PEC, and do not participate in the discussion will obtain a maximum of  7 points out of 10 as the final grade.
