Personal work is a must: any essay which contains plagiarism will be automatically marked with a 0 grade.
It is plagiarism:
To present as your own work a pre-existing text or parts of it. Consequently:
To include any other author’s sections literally, when they are longer than a sentence, without proper citation, wether in footnote or in-text. Listing this works in a final reference section is not at all enough.
To mention other author’s ideas or facts failing to properly cite the source (including reference, and page whenever posible).
To fail to use quoting marks (“”) when quoting segments of text by other authors, even when these segments are no longer than a sentence.
To deliberately make minor or formal modifications or simply paraphrasing to mask texts or parts of texts written by other people.
In general, we expect that your essay is a personal work, meaning that you can take ideas or facts from other authors (always citing properly), but the final wording of the text is only the result of your own work.
If you are still unsure about the subject, you may check this orientations at Oxford University.
We do not expect that your essay is impecabble in form or content, but we do require that it its your own work!
