The Research Group on International and Spanish Political Economy is made up mainly of professors from the Economic Policy area of the Department of Applied Economics of the National Distance Learning University (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia –UNED–, the Spanish Open University) at Madrid. In addition to teach economic policy to undergraduate and graduate students, they carry out an intense research agenda, committed to the principles of quality and academic rigor.
The objective of the Research Group is to contribute to the development and application of scientific knowledge, proposing measures that can be implemented in public policies, both nationally and internationally. The main topics of the Research Group are the economics and politics of energy, climate change policies, Euro-Mediterranean relations and North African political economy, water and environmental policy, sustainability in general, governance, circular economy, economic development, etc.
Among the members of the Research Group stands out Professor José María Marín Quemada, Professor of Economic Policy at UNED and first president of the CNMC (National Commission of Markets and Competition), the main regulatory body in Spain, since its creation in 2013 until June 2020.
