MÁSTER UNIVERSITARIO EN COOPERACIÓN POLICIAL EN EUROPA / POLICING IN EUROPE

OBJECTIVES AND COMPETENCES

The objectives of the Master are the most important and the newest for international police cooperation.

In fact, we start to describe all the features taught in Module 1:

COMPETENCES IN METHODOLOGY that are taught in Module 1: After successful completion of Module I, students will be able -among other tasks- to:

• Apply a series of methodological skills in the field of international and comparative police action

• Apply the fundamental principles of research: planning, data collection, analysis, writing and publication / dissemination

• research plan and appropriate research methods

• Know how to implement the results of research in practical work

• Reflect critically on the conditions of research with the inclusion of research ethics

After completing module II, students can acquire and / or improve the ability to:

-the understanding of the new challenges of European societies in the police field and the comparison between the systems of the EU Member States

-Apply a range of methodological skills in the international police field and in comparison

-Reflect critically on the systemic differences between national police systems, police models, police organizations and different police cultures

-Identify, prioritize and analyze the conflicts of a diverse society that affects police work and that defines security risks

-Understand the impact of different international structures and cultures as well as identify and soften barriers to help police cooperation in the EU
 


After module III students can :

-Manifest a comprehensive knowledge in the structure and context of European police cooperation

-Critically evaluate security strategies and policies in the EU and assess the implications of their implementation in the national context

-Evaluate the complexity of the different police action and distinguish the different strategic objectives of international organizations, agencies and other actors of law enforcement

-Apply external strategies of the EU and its policies in third countries

 

After completing Module IV, students can, among other things, :

-critically assess the implications of the legal and regulatory aspects of the relevant agencies in the EU in the area of police cooperation as well as the most relevant instruments in European cooperation on law enforcement

-Identify specific legal contexts related to EU and international policies in the field of security and protection of individuals perform a technical interpretation and evaluate a correct application of international regulations on cooperation in the application of laws

-Critically evaluate the application of legal texts, legal instruments and aspects of jurisprudence (international or European) to select the most recent and the best

 

After completing Module V, students may, among other things,

-select the appropriate channels for the exchange of police information recognize the tactical and operational aspects in the practice of European police cooperation assess priorities in the European strategy and select the most appropriate instruments for effective police cooperation

- apply the knowledge learned to transform it into operational plans and procedures within the framework of European police cooperation

 

After completing Module VI, students may, among other things,

-analyze and evaluate good practices in police cooperation in the EU including "quality management" models and apply them in a given situation

-demonstrate that the possibilities for change in management are known during the implementation of police cooperation strategies and policies in the EU

-manage leadership styles and analyze critically for a correct use of them

-evaluate leadership practices, reflect on professional ethics in relation to human rights in the context of a complex multi-level and multi-operational scenario in cross-border issues (cross-border multi-agency)
 


After finishing Module VII, students will be able to observe that they have acquired (and / or improved) some COMPETENCES IN RESEARCH MATTERS AS WELL AS COMPETENCES UNDER THE SET OF THE PROGRAM as described below:  

• The competencies in the field of international police cooperation in relation to the application of internal security in the European Union

• The ability to strategically reflect on the impact of advances in international security on police cooperation

• The competence to take on strategic advice with a solid knowledge of the advances in the international strategic situation and the relations of governance

• Demonstrate the ability to select an appropriate topic for analysis with due consideration to questions of confidentiality and ethics

• Identify the aspects, questions and problems related to the chosen topic

• Conduct a critical examination of the academic bibliography and other sources of information related to the selected object

• Formulate appropriate research methods, which provide the structure for the investigation, and establish the principles for the analysis, interpretation and / or evaluation of the evidence

• Conduct a critical examination of the Master thesis in relation to the objectives of the study and also in relation to the utility of surveillance strategies in the context of  the society

• The competencies in the field of international police cooperation in relation to the application of internal security in the European Union

• The ability to strategically reflect on the impact of advances in international security on police cooperation

• The competence to take on strategic advice with a solid knowledge of the advances in the international strategic situation and the relations of governance

• Demonstrate the ability to select an appropriate topic for analysis with due consideration to questions of confidentiality and ethics

• Identify the aspects, questions and problems related to the chosen topic

• Conduct a critical examination of the academic bibliography and other sources of information related to the selected object

• Formulate appropriate research methods, which provide the structure for the investigation, and establish the principles for the analysis, interpretation and / or evaluation of the evidence
