Description

The Final Paper is the equivalent of a mini Master’s Thesis. That is, a first version of a hypothetical, or real (in the case of those of you who are already working on it) Master’s Thesis. As such, it should have the structure of a Master’s Thesis (more information on that in the pdf in the documents folder titled “How to Write a Master’s Thesis"). You should include an abstract, keywords, footnotes, and a works cited page.

For those students who are not in the process of writing the TFM as yet, a topic related with the contents of the courses taken will be provided by the instructors.

  • 3000-4000 words (including footnotes and works cited). 

MLA formatting style: double space, Times New Roman 12, footnotes.  

Qualification and evaluation criteria

The following criteria will be taken into account when grading the paper:

  1. Audience, Purpose.
  2. Organization: general structure.
  3. Abstract and keywords.
  4. Introduction of the hypothesis.
  5. Knowledge of state of the question.
  6. Theoretical framework.
  7. Analysis and Development.
  8. Citations.
  9. Plagiarism.
  10. Conclusion.
  11. References.
  12. Appropriate use of MLA Style.
  13. Appropriate grammar and punctuation.
  14. Style, confidence and independence as an academic writer.
  15. Originality and relevance of the work

The deadline for the final paper in September is 3rd September 2021.

It is compulsory to include the authorship statement (declaración jurada) when you submit the final paper. You can find this document in the documents of the subject.

The PEC consists on the writing of an abstract. For those of you who have already decided on your Master’s thesis, this abstract can be that of the Master’s thesis. For those of you who have not made a decision on it as yet, the abstract can be that of a paper written for another course that you have taken in the master's program.

  4. Introduction of the hypothesis.
  5. Methodological framework.
  6. Analysis and Development.

  10. Style, confidence and independence as an academic writer.

Description

Forum participation.

The course is divided into 4 units. Each one of the units will have a specific forum open. Each unit will propose an activity for the students to participate in the forums. These activities are optional, but students are encouraged to participate.

Each contribution answering the task suggested by the professor will be marked between 2 and 2,5 points according to the quality and the extension of the post (approximately 250 words). To get the mark, the contributions need to be relevant and original.

How to obtain the final grade?

Final Grade:

70% Final Paper

20% PEC

10% Participation

Students will also be expected to adhere to the assignment deadlines and observe the commonly accepted standards of academic honesty and intellectual integrity. Those resorting to plagiarism or academic fraud in the PEC or the paper will receive a zero grade.

It is necessary to pass the paper with a minimum mark of 5 points so that the PEC mark and the participation in the online forums mark are added. The final mark is the result of the sum of these three marks. The sum of the three marks must be 5 points in order to pass the subject.

Those students who do not turn in the PEC, and do not participate in the discussion will obtain a maximum of  7 points out of 10 as the final grade.
