CONTENIDOS DE LA ASIGNATURA

1. Introduction to the methodology of literary and cultural research.

1.1 The process of scientific research in the fields of literature and culture. Scientific terms and concepts.   

1.2 Types of research.

1.3 Introduction to the use of methodological tools: choosing a subject and a methodological approach.

1.4 Bibliographical sources: Selecting secondary sources. Search in library catalogues. Electronic resources. Discriminating quality on web pages. Data bases. Electronic journals. Style format: MLA, Chicago and APA.

2. Concepts and theoretical perspectives, and their application to research in the fields of literature and culture in English.

2.1 Knowledge of the main contemporary theories in the field of literature and culture in English. 

2.2 Selection and use of a theoretical framework that backs up the hypothesis and the development of the argument.

2.3 Textual analysis and interpretation.

2.4 Critical reading of the literary discourse.

3. Formal conventions and rhetorical strategies for different types of research works (paper, article, research project, dissertation, …..)

3.1 Definition of a research hypothesis.  Development of the idea, research objectives, state of research in the field, methodological framework, and appropriateness of the study.

3.2 Structure of the research work (introduction, main body of work, development of the idea and conclusion). 

3.3 Correct use of academic language.

3.4 How to write an abstract and selection of keywords.

4. Planning the research work according to its nature. Knowledge and organization of its structure. Process and stages of its development.

4.1 Master's Thesis.

            4.2 Writing a paper for a conference, symposium, seminar, etc…

            4.3 The PhD dissertation.

4.4 Academic dissemination of knowledge (outputs): publishing your research. Preparing an article for an academic journal, a monographic volume, an edition, etc…
