According to the Common European Framework of Reference (Council of Europe, 2001), at the end of this level the student:
• can understand and use everyday expressions and very basic phrases related to his/her most immediate needs;
• can introduce himself/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal information;
• can interact in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is ready to help.
Specific objectives
Auditive comprehension
Recognizes everyday words and very basic phrases about himself/herself, his/her family, and his/her immediate surroundings when people speak to him slowly and very clearl
Reading comprehension
Understands words, familiar names and very simple phrases, e.g., those on signs, posters and catalogs.
Oral interaction
Interacts in a simple way if the other person is prepared to repeat or paraphrase slowly and helps the student to formulate what he/she wants to say.
Asks and answers simple questions in areas related to his immediate environment.
Oral expression
Uses simple phrases to describe where he/she lives and the people he/she knows.
Written expression
Writes short texts, such as a postcard.
Fills out personal information and registration forms.
